The main body of No.1 oil-storage tank for Sino-Kazakhstan oil pipeline at the 1st stop of Alataw pass in XJ has been completed successfully. Polyurea used as waterproof and insulation layer in the project of two oil-storage tanks with capacity of 50,000 cubic meters has gotten success in China. This is the first successful case filling the blank of its kind in China.
Alataw Pass is the well-known wind zone in China. Its climate is characterized by wind, sand and drought. Wind above 6 grade has 256 days in one year. Annual temperature variation is large. The temperature difference from summer to winter is up to 84℃. It is difficult to carry out construction for the oil-storage tank.
The SPUA has such technical features versus traditional technology of waterproofing and insulation materials:
These advantages and benefits make work efficiency improved and reduce the adverse impact of the natural environment to construction. The betterment of technology and materials makes the overall service life of the storage tank up to 40 years.
Polyurea used as waterproof and insulation layer on such large volume was the first time. And the excellent waterproofing and insulation properties of the novel material make the oil-storage tank with longevity.
The novel polyurea technology makes the Sino-Kazakhstan oil pipeline project finished smoothly. The novel material and new technology are approved by a large number of experts.
The 2008 Mid-Year Meeting was an educational opportunity for the attendees to seek more knowledge in-between the Annual Conference. This meeting concentrated on how polyurea technology and concrete can work together. Attendees were educated on this topic in order to market their products or services to the concrete industry.
The meeting opened with two great project profiles. David Preston, Advanced Resin Coatings LLC gave a presentation on “The Applicator Is Not Always at Fault.” And Don Dancey, Innovative Painting & Waterproofing, presented his case study on, “Los Angeles County Men’s Central Jail Exercise/Sports Decks.” Both case studies expressed the use of polyurea and concrete working together! Kelin Bower, Polyvers International, then gave an introduction to the USGBC, LEED Certification and Polyurea’s green side in his presentation, “Green Building and Polyurea.” He explained what green building is, what its goals are and what the future holds.
Following, Jon Gilchrist, PDA Legal Council, presented, “Warranty Specifications.” He discussed what warranties are, how they relate to the polyurea industry and how to protect your company in a contract. Lastly, Scott Bush, LEXINET CORP. & MarketingSalsa, presented, “How to Use Direct Marketing More Effectively.” Scott presented the basics for utilizing direct mail marketing effectively and efficiently, the attendees took home lots of new ideas!

As one of supporting projects of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games,Beijing-Tianjin high-speed railway is the frist high grade passenger line which has been built in China. The distance from Beijing South Railway Station to Tianjin Railway Sation is 115 kilometers, and the speed of the train is designed up to 350 kilometers per hour. The total investment of this project is ¥ 12.34 billion by Ministry of Railway,P.R.China.
Most of the railway was composed of 32-metre-width two-lane concrete beams. After polyurea was sprayed as waterproofing layer,a tons transport vehicle would roll on it almost 1000 times. The common waterproofing materials were difficult to bear such heavy rolling while polyurea could meet so harsh requirements because of its excellent mechanical propperties and good adhesion to concrete.
Three polyurea products including SPUA-102 spray polyurea elastomer produced by Qingdao JiaLian New Chemical Materials Co.,Ltd were uesd. These polyurea products keep many advantages, such as fast turnaround time (fast cure), no VOC's, moisture and temperature insensitivity, extraordinary physical properties, abrasion resistant, good bond strength to primed concrete, superior weathering etc...
Prior to application of SPUA-102 polyurea, the concrete was prepared with a grind tool driven by power, cleande using water and the dried. A sealing primer SPUA-400 must be brush or roll to enhance the adhesion between polyurea and the concrete. 2000um of SPUA-102 gray polyurea was applied for the finished surface, forming a seamless waterproof barrier.
After polyurea appliction, many rigorous tests were done, As expected, excellent adhesion and superior strength of polyurea were highly praised by the owner.
The total areas of waterproof treatment works in this project were above 1,000,000 square meters, and the amount of polyurea which had been used was more than 2000 tons, Beijing-Tianjin high-speed railway project is the largest waterproofing engineering in China polyurea industry, and it is also one of the famous polyurea works in the world.[2007-12-03]

W ill you notice the novel waterproof material under your feet when you are enjoying the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games? This wear-resistant, anti-skip, seamless and comfortable waterproof material is spray polyurea elastomer.
Water is one of the most destructive enemies for architectures, that is why the waterproof materials play an important role in the whole construction. The theme of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games is green, high-tech and humanistic Olympics. So the high-tech green waterproof material is going to replace the traditional waterproof materials which have poor quality and pollutant.

After two-year investigation and screening tests by Beijing Municipal Construction Committee and Beijing Olympic Project Headquarters Office, the SPUA-102 polyurea is produced by Qingdao JiaLian Co. is was specified for this job due to its superior quality and performance characteristics versus other competitive products, such as no VOC’s, good physical properties, abrasion resistance, anti-skip etc..
One example of Beijing Olympic stadiums used polyurea is Olympics Sports Center Stadium, which in its heyday was China’s stadium—the site for the 11th Beijing Asian Games. During the last decade, it was once the most outstanding stadium of its type in China with exceptional facilities. After a thorough transformation, this aged stadium of glory is now ready for its close up during the upcoming 2008 Beijing Olympics. As part of its transformation, its surface area was enlarged from 20000 to 37000 square meters----with polyurea on all the concrete stands.

After partial concrete repair, including epoxy putty to level the surfaces, 1 mil SPUA-D400 Sealing Primer was applied, followed by spray-applied 60--80 mils SPUA-102 aromatic polyurea. The resulting polyurea surface had a slight “orange peel” texture to provide slip-resistance for the life of the stand.
So far the green polyurea product has been widely used on the concrete stand of many 2008 Beijing Olympic projects, such as National Aquatics Center (Water Cube), Fengtai Sports Center Softball Field, Olympics Sports Center Hockey Field, Beijing Olympics Basketball Gymnasium, Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park etc.. The total areas in these Olympics projects add up to above 100,000 square meters.

Qingdao JiaLian Co. is the first company which researches and produces spray polyurea waterproof material in China and takes part in installation of 2008 Beijing Olympic actively with its technical advantages. We are proud to be the polyurea supplier of such prestigious projects and our staff work hard to ensure that everything runs smoothly prior to 2008 Beijing Olympics. The flexibility and toughness of polyurea will reduce life-cycle maintenance costs and ensure that the Olympics stadium will be easier to maintain.
The Royal British Navy had been experiencing many different waterproofing and corrosion problems on the exterior of their petroleum reservoir tanks. They have over 20 petroleum reservoirs which have been built over 40 years ago. The reservoirs contain the diesel and kerosene they use to fill up the ships. Over the years the oil had been seeping through the rivets along the outside of the petroleum reservoir. Furthermore, it was very important to be repaired immediately as the damage created a poor aesthetic appearance of the tanks and there was loss of fuel. There were two possibilities; replace the tanks (which would take months and be extremely costly) or repair the rivets with Polyurea which would put back the installation in days and be very cost efficient.
The decision was made and the Royal British Navy partnered with Polyval Coatings Inc., a PDA member, to become their Polyurea supplier. Polyval Coatings supplied a special Polyurea formulation that resisted against the petroleum products such as; crude oil, diesel, kerosene and jet fuel.
Copas Coatings Inc. was selected as the general contractor for this project and the job began in 2006.
This system was applied with one layer of Mono Ferro Pur, a moisture cure polyurethane primer, followed by one coat of Polyflex 202 at 2.00 mm D.F.T. (80 mills). As a top coat, they applied one coat of aliphatic moisture cure polyurethane of Xymax. The Xymax line of products is used to protect the color stability and retain the gloss. It's fast drying and curing time made it possible to put back the installation in operation in just a few days.

The Polyurea Development Association (PDA) has released the first comprehensive independent study of markets for pure polyurea and hybrid systems obtainable in the world. The Study of the Global Polyurea Industry is now available for purchase to the general public. The study was funded by the PDA as part of its ongoing effort to promote clarity and understanding of the rapidly expanding polyurea technology industry worldwide.
By design, this inaugural industry study defines the size of the supply base for polyurea products on a global basis, and has individual data compiled for North America, Europe, Asia and the rest of the world. It establishes a baseline of data on polyurea technology in the industry that can be referenced and used to chart industry direction and trends in coming years. This furthers the position of PDA as the main industry resource for polyurea technology information.
Compilations of the data and the projections contained in the report are the product of Ducker Worldwide (Ducker), an independent global market research firm based in Troy, Michigan that has provided strategic intelligence and consulting services to the chemicals and industrial marketplace since 1961.
This study was sponsored by forwardthinking PDA members and important corrosion related industry associations including SSPC, NACE and CoatingsPro Magazine. This generous sponsorship allowed PDA to complete the important task of global data gathering.
